Throughout the course, we discussed several factors, drivers, explanations, or variables that have either a direct or indirect effect on both public management and organizational performance at any level of government: local, state, and/or federal. In a well-organized essay (e.g., title, introduction, outline, subheadings, conclusions), you are expected to define “public management” according to at least three different scholars. Then, from the topics discussed in class, list and describe the factors affecting public management and/or organizational performance. How do these factors affect organizational performance? Make sure you support these factors with both the corresponding literature (citing specific authors we have read) and the respective causal mechanisms or ways in which they influence public management. Finally, define “performance management’ and describe the different types of measures that a public manager or an auditing agency can use to assess organizational performance. I expect you to have at least three different references per page. The references must be from the reading we discussed in class. This is an individual assignment. The essay should not exceed (8) pages and be no shorter than eight (7) pages, excluding the bibliography (which is required). The essay must be double-spaced with 1-inch margins and written in 12-point Times New Roman. Please, do not add more space between paragraphs. Paragraphs should have at least five full sentences. Use transition sentences to link ideas and paragraphs. Make sure the introduction includes an outline of the essay. I strongly recommend including a title and section headings to organize the content of the essay; however, avoid overusing headings. Please refrain from inserting the title of the article, journal, or chapter in the body of the essay. Just refer to the author(s) and year (and page number if it is a direct quotation). Insert page number to the essay.
