Assignment: Comparative Analysis
Description: Students will write a 2,000-word Comparative Analysis following the structure presented in class (point-by-point or block method, your choice). In this essay, students must select two historical events that seem unalike and put them into conversation with one another. Your goal is to present an argument that these two seemingly separate events are actually quite similar. Students may choose events from whichever country and time period they prefer; the events can both be from similar cultures/time periods/locations or entirely different ones so long as the chosen events themselves are real and appear unalike. Thesis statements must be approved a week in advance. Unapproved topics will be docked 10%. Writing an unapproved topic that does not meet the criteria of “unalike events” will receive a zero.
