Introduction –  You will select a book, a biography or autobiography–of someone who struggled with addiction and recovery. 
Purpose- This assignment will help you to understand the struggle for substance misuse recovery from a deeply individual perspective. Many students enjoy this assignment because it brings together all the components of the semester into a compelling story. 
Detailed Tasks/Key Components –
Your paper should be approximately 4-5 pages (double spaced) not including the title page, no reference page is needed. 
Your headings should include, at minimum, the following, although you may select more or have sub-headings: (or you might use topics/sub-headings from the rubric or help organize your paper)
Introduction -Title, author(s), number of pages, state if autobiography, biography or fiction and why you selected this book, what drew you to it, and how long did it take you to read it.
Summary of the Story – Summary of the story at least one page minimum -2 pages maximum 
Impact of Addiction -Detail at least 3 examples of how the addiction negatively impacted the person
Barriers to Recovery- Detail the personal struggles and / or failures of the person wanting to get clean and barriers to recovery
Impact on Reader-  what did you learn about substance use disorders from reading this book.
GUIDELINES
Logistics/Submission Format – Be sure to organize your paper by subheadings as listed below:
Introduction -Title, author(s), number of pages, state if autobiography, biography or fiction and why you selected this book, what drew you to it, and how long did it take you to read it.
Summary of the Story – Summary of the story at least one page minimum -2 pages maximum 
Impact of Addiction -Detail at least 3 examples of how the addiction negatively impacted the person
Barriers to Recovery- Detail the personal struggles and / or failures of the person wanting to get clean and barriers to recovery
Impact on Reader-  what did you learn about substance use disorders from reading this book.
