The Centre Region Council of Governments conducted a comprehensive GHG inventory for the baseline year of 2016 and has since adopted ambitious, science-based targets of reducing GHG emissions by 45% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. I chair the Implementation Technical Advisory Group for the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (attached )
Demonstrate the business case for undertaking energy efficiency and renewable energy projects to local business owners and commercial property owners. The commercial energy sector represents almost half of the Centre Region’s energy emissions – and therefore represents a big opportunity to achieve meaningful reductions (and hit our targets!). But the incentives can be split. If I’m a business owner in a rented space – I don’t have any authority to make decisions about the HVAC equipment, for example. If I’m a property owner and I don’t pay the monthly utility bills, what’s my incentive to invest in more efficient infrastructure? Tricky questions – but we’re going to tackle them!
Your task is to look for existing stories and case studies of work in this space from around the country and even around the world. The one really neat thing about local climate work is that almost unequivocally, the people doing it are eager to share their lessons learned with others. After all, we’re all on the same team.
