For this assignment, you must develop a five to seven page, thesis-driven interp

For this assignment, you must develop a five to seven page, thesis-driven interpretation of a text
that you have read during the semester or a comparison of two or more texts. Papers could
include explorations of the text’s culture, history, form, religion, gender/sexuality, authorship,
theme, setting, literary techniques, etc.
As you prepare for the final essay, you should choose one aspect of the text that troubles or
interests you, and examine the ways in which that element adds to or changes the meaning of the
whole.
This is a formal literary analysis, so avoid first person. Do not use contractions, and PROOFREAD!!!
You should have a clear and arguable thesis statement that is supported throughout your
thesis, and you should have an insightful conclusion. Thesis statements such as “ The Epic of
Gilgamesh and Beowulf are similar” is NOT arguable.
While you only have to incorporate two outside sources in this essay, you are encouraged to
examine a wide variety of resources, including, and especially, any sources that may contradict
your own interpretations of the text. In addition to outside research, you will also use examples
from the text (and if doing a comparison – examples from both texts). I highly encourage you to
submit a rough draft for feedback well before the paper is due.
Requirements:
5-7 pages in length
The essay must be on a work or works that we have read and discussed at any time throughout
the semester
MLA formatting, including a separate “Works Cited” page.
A minimum of two secondary sources (They MUST be reliable sources)
Due Date: 6/21
