Your first major writing assignment for 112 is an MLA Annotated Bibliography tha

Your first major writing assignment for 112 is an MLA Annotated Bibliography that explores social media in your proposed discipline.
Often social media is disregarded in academia; however, looking at the newsfeeds of professional organizations and leaders in your discipline can educate you about relevant topics in your profession.
The Assignment’s Algorithm:
Begin by researching prominent professional organizations and leaders in your discipline. Then go to  Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or another social media platform to see what topics and claims these mentors are posting about publicly. Are they encouraging changes to your discipline? Are they advocating for a cause? Exploring their newsfeeds can help you identify current topics in your field, which you can then research to become more knowledgeable about your anticipated career.
Then go to the Wake Tech’s library website and research articles pertaining to the topic of the post to learn more about the issue at hand. Select three credible sources.
Finally, create an MLA Annotated Bibliography with the four sources you have (the one social media post and the three sources). Make sure that you follow the requirements below for your annotations.

Requirements:
Assignment Title: Annotated Bibliography
Format: MLA
Topics: Topics relating to religion or abortion will not be approved or earn credit.
15% of your overall grade
900 words (not page count)
Submit work in the form of a Word document (not Google Docs, PDF’s, or .Pages)

Sources :  Four Total (including the social media post)
One social media postdated no more than six months ago
Three articles from the WTCC database dated within the last five years
The title of this assignment is “Annotated Bibliography” (Note: if you were writing an essay in MLA format, “Works Cited” would be the title of the last page of sources.
Make sure your sources are alphabetized.
Create hanging indents for each source
Write out author’s last names with a comma after them and then the first names. (i.e. Young, Asa.)
Capitalize, italicize, and use quotation marks properly.
Include a DOI or URL at the end of each source
Annotations :
Following each source, compose one paragraph, consisting of the following criteria:
Summarize the source in three to four sentences, using 3rd person.
Assess the credibility/ reliability of the source in two to three sentences, using 3rd person. Often you can find the author’s credentials at the top or bottom of the article by hovering over the name with your curser. If there is no author, assess the website, newspaper, etc.. that contained the source.
Reflect upon how effective the source is in impacting your understanding of the topic in two to three sentences. For example, are there data, facts, graphs, or expert opinions that helped you better understand the topic? (1st person may be used here).
Steps:
Considering your proposed career path(teaching ), research professional organizations and leaders in your discipline to see what important topics they are chatting about on social media. For instance, if you plan to be a doctor, you might focus on the social media accounts of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, the World Health Organization, or the Center for Disease Control.
Select one social media post within the last six months that you wish to focus on. You can use  Purdue Owl’s Citation Generator to create the format for the post. (I suggest emailing and screenshotting the image for safekeeping).
Purdue Owl Citation Generator  direct link: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/using_citation_machines_responsibly.html.
Note that all citation generators can have errors, so check your format carefully.
For example, names of journal articles are placed into quotation marks, but the container that the article is in, the name of the newspaper or journal, would be italicized.
See this guide for details:  Purdue Owl

Then go to the Wake Tech library’s website to search for sources published within the last five years that further explain/discuss the topic of the post. Remember that many of the “cite” links are set to APA, so change to MLA, accordingly.

Evaluate sources carefully, selecting three. Keep in mind that one of the sources should ideally be used for a rhetorical analysis in your next project, so take your time selecting quality sources. You may use any as long as you find them on the WTCC library website.
Follow the directions above for annotations (summarize, assess, and reflect) for each source, including the social media post.
