Please read ALL directions carefully. This assignment has 3 exercises, so please make sure you complete all 3 parts.
Exercise 1: In the following paragraph, many of the sentences contain subject-verb agreement errors. For EACH SENTENCE in the paragraph, 1) copy and paste it into a new document, 2) identify the errors, 3) rewrite the sentence with the correct subject-verb agreement, and 4) explain why you made the changes that you did. You must complete step 4, or you will not receive credit for any part of the exercise. (You can say something like “The subject is “they,” which is plural, so I changed the verb from “was” to “were” so the verb would be plural too.” You must explain your reasoning- the critical thinking process is the most important skill to practice!!)
1. The group of students are excited about their upcoming field trip to the zoo. 2. Each student in the class have prepared for this event for weeks. 3. They was looking forward to seeing the animals and learning about their habitats. 4. Some of the kids brings their cameras to take pictures. 5. The tour guide at the zoo talk about the different species and their behaviors. 6. While the students watched the lions, they was amazed by their strength. 7. The teacher, along with the students, is enjoying the educational experience. 8. After the trip, everyone agrees that it was a great day.
Exercise 2: Read the following short paragraph. For EACH SENTENCE in the paragraph, 1) copy and paste it and 2) highlight the SUBJECT of the sentence in YELLOW, and the VERB in GREEN (I have numbered the sentences to make this more straightforward). Some sentences may have a compound (more than one) subject or verb.
1. A close-knit group of friends, known for their shared love of the sun and sand, decided to make the most of a perfect summer day. 2. They packed their beach gear and set out for a day at the shore. 3. With laughter and excitement, they played beach volleyball, swam in the sparkling waves, and soaked up the sun’s warmth. 4. However, despite their diligent efforts to apply sunscreen, one member of the group, Nanette, forgot to reapply after swimming. 5. As the day wore on, she began to feel the sting of a sunburn setting in. 6. Despite her discomfort, the group continued to enjoy their beach day, promising to be more vigilant with sun protection next time.
Exercise 3: In the paragraph above, all of the sentences have correct subject-verb agreement. For this exercise, using the same paragraph above, 1) copy and paste EACH SENTENCE, 2) change the sentences so that the subject-verb agreement is INCORRECT, and 3) explain why you made the changes that you did. (You must complete this step!)
