Source Evaluations
In this assignment, you will evaluate two scholarly sources related to your potential research problem. A scholarly source is one that has been reviewed by experts, or peers, in the discipline or field.
You will determine two academic disciplines that are related to your research problem and select one source from each of the disciplines to review. Sources should be recent, meaning they were published in the past ten (10) years.
Formatting Guidelines
All dropbox assignments in PRST 3995 should conform to the following formatting expectations:
Microsoft Word or compatible format
One-inch margins
A 12-point font, such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri
Double-spaced text
Appropriate conventions of academic writing, including grammar, syntax, and mechanics
Assignment Requirements
1. Title Page
Include a title page formatted according to the APA 7th Edition student paper guidelines (assignment title, your name, department and university name, course number and title, professor name, and date).
2. Draft Research Problem Statement
At this stage in your research, you will develop a draft statement that defines your potential research problem. The research problem statement should be clear, define the scope of the problem, and include context explaining why it is important to investigate the problem. You should include in-text citations from reputable sources to support the claims you make in your problem statement, and the references should be included on a reference page at the end of the assignment.
*Please note: your potential research problem should be the problem you brainstormed in your Research Problem Exploration Module 2 Dropbox Activity or a new research problem related to your previous coursework. The research problem should not be one of the problems from the collaborative discussion activities, nor should you evaluate an source we have reviewed in the collaborative discussion activities.
3. Evaluation of Peer-Reviewed Source for Discipline 1 (replace the numeral “1” with the name of the discipline)
A. REFERENCE:
Provide a full APA-formatted reference of the source before you begin your evaluative review of the source.
B. INTRODUCTION:
Provide a broad overview and synopsis of the source, its main points, and its disciplinary perspective. The summary should answer the following questions:
What is the author’s main argument or conclusion?
Which 2-3 insights are most relevant to the problem you are researching?
From which disciplinary perspective is the author viewing the problem, and how did you determine the disciplinary perspective? Remember that the author’s background and credentials, as well as the type of publication (i.e., Journal of Higher Education or Journal of Exercise Science) provide clues to the disciplinary perspective).
C. EVALUATION:
Provide a detailed evaluation of the source. Critically evaluate the source, including both positive and negative points using the following criteria (refer to the CRAAP Test Worksheet for questions to consider):
Currency (timeliness): How old or new is the information?
Authority (source of information): Who is the author and what are their credentials or areas of expertise?
Accuracy (reliability, validity, & accuracy): What features of the source add to the reliability and accuracy of the information? What research methods does the author use and what evidence is presented to support the author’s claims?
Purpose (point of view or bias): Why was the information published (to inform, entertain, persuade, etc.)? Is the information presented biased or subjective?
D. RELEVANCE:
Explain how the information presented in the source relates to your research problem by answering the following questions:
How does the source relate to your research problem?
Why do you believe the source would be a good source to use for your interdisciplinary research paper?
Which insights from this source would you use in your paper?

5. Data Management Table
One organizational technique that you can use to organize your research is a data management table. Using the example below, create and complete a table for the two sources you reviewed in this assignment. The table columns should include labels for the author and year of publication, the disciplinary perspective, the author’s central point or thesis, and the main insights presented.
