The Business Case for Quality
Review the class
discussion on the business case f

The Business Case for Quality
Review the class
discussion on the business case for quality and complete the required
readings/viewings before beginning this assignment.
Think about things you,
your unit, or your organization could do to improve quality. Look at the
IHI business template and the information in the articles provided to create a
business case for quality improvement. This may provide an additional resource
for you to consider.
The business case should
include:
·
Introduction
o   Description
of the challenge/problem that requires improvement.
o   Background
of the unit/organization/etc. Where quality improvement is required.
·
Description of quality improvement options considered (including
the potential benefits and the potential risks and issues of each) and the
rationale for accepting or rejecting each.
·
Outcomes (success factors/expected impact) and Measurement
Methods
·
Detailed plan of action and timeline. Include who will be
involved, engaging stakeholders, etc.
·
Cost/Benefit Analysis, projected ROI
·
Conclusion
·
References
·
Appendix (if needed)
The paper is limited to
10 pages and does not include the title page, references, and appendix.
The IHI template includes
organizational and informational readiness assessments. We don’t expect you to
do a full readiness assessment for this assignment – some of the info would not
be available since this is not an actual business case – however, reviewing the
assessment templates will provide you with information on what you might need
to consider.
There is also a
considerable amount of information in the IHI paper on concepts you must
address (such as value, drivers for optimizing the business case, and steps for
developing the business case). You should review the slides used when
discussing developing a business case in class and the case examples provided
in the module.
This is not a “scholarly”
paper, meaning that you do not need to write a paragraph on what a business
case is and why it is important. That would be a negative in terms of
conciseness. Instead, it is intended to be a business proposal that you would
submit to your organization’s leadership because you want to develop/implement
a quality improvement.
As usual, tables and
figures should be put into the body of the proposal if they are best
communicated there. Use the appendix for supplemental material. For example,
the ROI should be discussed in the body of the paper, but you can also provide
details on how you calculated the ROI in the appendix.
