This requirement involves reading and critiquing an article from professional (peer-reviewed) journals pertaining to
current topics in the field of education. I will provide articles you can choose from, or you may critique a different
article with prior approval. All articles are written using the style of writing expected at the collegiate level using the
American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines. A resource for learning about this style can be found online
by going to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/ . It is recommended that each student carefully consider the rubric that
will be used to grade the article critiques in order to comply with the standards that are set for this assignment.
Your review should be 2-3 pages.
• Discuss the author’s main points and summarize their ideas, methodology, philosophy, research. This
should be a summary section, not a commentary section.
• Discuss your opinion of the material. Remember that opinions must be written in academic language, backed
by facts and if possible, supported by concrete examples. If research was done, it is appropriate to review &
comment on the methodology.
• Connect this article to your own philosophy, experience, or future educational career. How does this article
match with (or differ from) your educational philosophy? What about this article reminds you of your lived
experience? How would this be relevant if you were a teacher or administrator for the appropriate subject /
grade level? Be specific and give concrete examples.
Remember that this should be a coherent essay, albeit with three sections. These guidelines will also be my rubric
