Below are 2 responses that answered “What were the most important things you learned this semester? What aspects of the course do you think will be most helpful to you as a future social worker?”
Please responde to each person seperately
submission 1 Ciara: I think the most important thing I have learned from this course during this semester is the concept of developmental stages. I think what further helped me understand and connect this concept to how it can be used in my future career was our project in which we had to connect three concepts and connect them to our childhood and adolescence. Considering that I aim to become a child welfare social worker, I started to realize that these parts of the coursework were extremely important and are things that I am going to find familiar once I am out in the field. I could especially encounter instances in which I am connecting concepts like intersectionality or Erikson’s theory to a child and their current state, when doing casework for example.
Submission 2 Hakima:
This semester, I learned critical concepts that will benefit me as a future social worker. First, I gained a deep understanding of human behavior and the social environment, including how various factors like biology, psychology, and societal Influences shape individuals’ lives. This knowledge will help me effectively engage with clients and communities, considering their unique circumstances and needs.
The course gave me valuable skills to address clients’ well-being by emphasizing the significance of considering developmental stages, family dynamics, and cultural issues in social work practice.
