Part 1 – Self-Management Tools:
Using the book section titled “Creating a Leak-Proof Self-Management System” in Chapter 4 of On Course, first review the six self-management tools listed.
Select only one or two of these that seem like a good choice(s) for your own self-management system, but DO NOT choose the monthly calendar tool.
Then, write a paragraph that describes how you can use your tool(s) to prioritize and help you meet your most important goals. Include specific examples of how you can use them in your daily work, school and home life.
Part 2 – Quadrants:
Make a list of 12-15 specific actions you have taken in the past couple days, including at least one weekday, as well as work, school, social, and fun.  The actions will be specific as if someone could have recorded you doing them with a camera; they can be school, work, or home-related.
Fill in each action from your list in the appropriate quadrant in the chart below.
If the chart doesn’t transfer over well, a categorized list is fine.
After each action, put the approximate amount of time you spent doing the activity.
You may not have something to put into each quadrant. That’s ok!
Example: Quadrant IV might be filled with actions such as these:
Watched TV (2 hrs)
Phone call to family member (1 hr)
Played online games (3 hrs)
Texted with friends (1 hr)
Quadrant II Time Management System®
Use Grid
to Prioritize
Urgent
Not Urgent
Quadrant I:
Urgent and Important:
(bills, stress, cramming, running late) Quadrant 2:
Not Urgent and Important
(no stress, proactive, studying early)
Important
Not Important
Quadrant 3:
Urgent but Not Important
(unexpected, helping others 1st)
Quadrant 4:
Not Urgent and Not Important
(fun stuff, distractions, procrastination)
Part 3 – Analysis:
After filling in the quadrants chart, answer the following questions in paragraph format about what you learned or relearned concerning your use of time:
Based on the first section of chapter 4, explain which of the four quadrants is the best one to be in? Why?
What specific choices can you make to spend more time in this quadrant?
Of quadrants 1, 2, 3 or 4, which one do you personally spend the most time in? Why?
If you continue using your time in this way, are you likely to reach your goals and dreams?  Why or why not?
Where/how do you encounter stress related to time or the way you use time?
What is at least one step you can take to decrease that stress?
