Ling 115 – Reflection Paper Guidelines
Your task in the paper is to reflect on how sociolinguistics relates to you and your life
(the paper thus aligns with GE Area IC Learning Outcome 2 – “Explain relationships
between the humanities, arts, and the self”).
The course highlights many potentially relevant areas of sociolinguistics, and you have
already reflected on many of them in the discussions. For the paper, you’re welcome to
expand on the same topics and/or reflect on other ones. You’re also welcome to
reflect on as many different topics as you’d like within the paper.
The paper must be at least 1,000 words. Upper-division GE courses have to require
2,000 words of writing. Your discussion posts cover half of the requirement, but only half
can be informal like that, so we also have a 1,000-word paper.
The paper is due by 11:59pm on Thursday, May 16th. That’s the same as the deadline
to complete the final exam.
