Choose two (2) prompts to write about. You must have two initial posts and at least 1 response post. So there should be 3 individual posts in total. DO NOTuse the words “prompt”, “discussion”, or “module” in the title. The prompt is there to help you focus on what you are writing about. Do not list the prompt as the title. When you read the prompt, it should help you focus and determine what you are going to write about, you are answering by discussing what you know from reading the chapter and other material. You are demonstrating that you read the material and understood it well enough to discuss. So choose 2 of the “Initial Topic” prompts, and then read some of the other posts to see what other people wrote and respond to one of them.
Initial Posts MUST have a 150-word minimum (about 2 paragraphs). Response posts have a 75-word minimum (about 1 paragraph). It is not enough to agree or disagree, explain why or what you found interesting in the way they responded. Review the rubric attached to the discussion board for further details. To view the Grading Rubric, click the kabob menu on the upper right-hand side, and then select “Show Rubric”.
APA writing includes in-text citations and references are required only on original posts. To understand what the APA format looks like, review: APA Style. (Nov. 2023). Reference Examples. You MUST use the textbook and an outside source in your original posts.
Do not copy the prompt. Write so that you are answering the question in an essay format. Use the prompt to help you write about the topic.
Prompt 1:
How representative is Congress? Most legislators are white, upper-middle-class males, although this group is a very small part of our entire population. What impact does this skewed representation have in terms of liberty, equality, and democracy? Can these people really represent women, minorities, and poor citizens? Realistically, could an indigent person ever get elected to Congress?
Prompt 2:
Are the responsibilities of the most powerful leader in the world, the American president, too large a job for one person? Why has the American presidency as an institution grown so large? Are there any powers you think should be taken away from the president?
Prompt 3:
Have you ever considered seeking a career in government? How do you feel about working for the government after reading this chapter? What level of government interests you most: federal, state, or local? What agency would be of particular interest to you and why?
Prompt 4:
The Supreme Court justices are more willing to declare acts of Congress unconstitutional than to strike down presidential actions as contradicting the U.S. Constitution. Why is this the case? When have the Supreme Court justices checked presidential power in the past?
