Again, assume that Pet Paws has finally contracted to purchase a company aircraft. As the newly appointed flight manager you are going to meet with the human resource department to discuss and identify the various required positions and number of employees necessary for the flight department.
The Human Resource manager is getting quite concerned that the number of employees required in the flight department will be extremely expensive. She asks if there are any alternatives to direct hiring employees in order to keep the employee costs down. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of using independent contractors for each of the positions you determined necessary.
Based upon your past experience, you know the NBAA Management Guide, and the various job posting sites such as Indeed.com and AVJobs.com, can be powerful tools to use as a reference to prepare for this meeting.
Instructions
1. Write a recommendation report based upon the scenario described in the Overview above that includes the required content listed below.
2. Content requirements:
Identify at least three (3) key positions that must be filled to effectively operate the new flight department. Write a job desсrіption that includes roles and responsibilities for each position that will be advertised online for the personnel in the flight department.
Note: Pilot can be used only once. It is assumed that chief pilot and co-pilot will have a monolithic job desсrіption and will NOT have any duties involving management of the flight department.
Address the question about the use of independent contractors vice direct hires within the flight department.
Introductory paragraph: Provide a summary of the overall content of the report introducing each each content element. Identify the key positions/roles that you recommended be hired to help operate the department.
In a separate paragraph within the introduction, summarize the a) general advantages and disadvantages and b) considerations that must taken into account of using indirect employeees/independent contractors within the flight department vice direct hire employees for the flight department. Make sure this paragraph has its own section header. Note, you are NOT addressing your recommendations at this point.
Create a table: Outline the relative advantages and disadvantages using independent contractors for each of the roles you identified for your flight department within this assignment.
The table will include the following headings a) Indirect/Independent Contractors – advantages and disadvantages, b) Direct hire employees – advantages and disadvantages, c) Identify each of the three (3) roles you selected to be part of the flight department.
Each role is to include one (1) advantage and one (1) disadvantage of using an independent contractor and for direct hire.
Create a table that is effective and easy to read. Should be able to scan and pick up the highlights in about 15 seconds. You may use a Word table, or try to pull in a nicely created table from LucidChart.
Note: Pulling in LucidChart will gain you another 5 free points added to the score. Yes, that means that a 105% can be earned.
Summarize your perspective and recommendation regarding the hire of flight department personnel. All direct? All indirect (independent contractors)? Or, a mix of the two? If a mix, which roles will be direct and which will be indirect?
