INSTUCTIONS :
Research your topic using credible, reliable, peer-reviewed, scholarly sources.  Wikipedia.org, Ask.com, Answers.com, and random websites are not credible and/or reliable.  Use books, journals, newspapers, etc. (including online versions) for your research.  Use the Locke Library!  Use a variety of sources from a variety of disciplines to show the interdisciplinary nature of your topic.  Your paper should have at least 5 credible sources from 3 different disciplines e.g., history, philosophy, art, psychology, sociology, biology, chemistry.
Topic Proposal
I propose to research the evolution of family values and traditional marriage in the United States across three distinct time periods: the 1950s, the 1980s, and the present time, which is after the year 2010. This topic aligns with the theme of family structure, which is one of the basic aspects of being human. By focusing on the evolution of family values and traditional marriage in one country, I would like to identify cultural shifts, societal pressures, and policies that have impacted the core components of American society. The research will be centered on the nuclear family model, perceptions towards divorce, religious roles in the nuclear family, and the societal emphasis on the nuclear family model. It is pertinent given controversies surrounding family relationships, especially concerning family structure, child upbringing, and national identity. Through examining these changes over time, I will look at the problems and prospects of traditional family values in modern America from a conservative perspective.
Preliminary Annotated Bibliography Instructions
Purpose
The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to provide a list of sources you will use in a research
paper. Remember that to fulfill the project’s instructions you must have at least five sources, so
it is wise to have six to eight sources on a preliminary bibliography just in case a source does not
work out for the paper. In addition, you must annotate each citation with a concise summary of
the source’s content and a brief evaluation of how you will use the source in your paper.
What to Include in Your Annotated Bibliography
1. At least FIVE sources, you may have more.
2. Full bibliographic citation in the Chicago/Turabian, APA, MLA, or CSE documentation
style
3. A brief (4-6 sentences) summary of the source’s contents
4. A brief (3-5 sentences) evaluation of how you will use this source in your paper—what is
this source’s use/value to you
Format
1. Written in Formal Standard Written English i.e. no slang, no first or second person, no
contractions
2. Dates should be written as either 27 July 2005 or July 27, 2005
3. Typed in standard font e.g. Times New Roman 12
4. Double spaced
5. One-inch margins on all sides
