This activity extends the design content discussed in Week 3. The focus here is on instructional graphics, which you and your teams are required to create and integrate into their Employment Outlook Report (I”ll discuss that major assignment next week).
Some of this activity might be review for you. I’ve personally been surprised at how much students already know about MS-Excel compared to MS-Word. Most students, however, have never created a pictograph, so the last task is generally the “cool” portion of the activity.
Materials
Download all these files before beginning the assignment.

Process
Read Chapter 12 in L&G before attempting this activity. You might find it interesting that visual information, such as tables, have a number of rules associated with its best practices. For example, Lannon and Gurak provide 12 different rules for the table (p. 246).
Once you’ve read the assigned chapter, download the above-referenced files and watch the four videos where I demonstrate some tools associated with creating tables, bar charts, pie charts, and pictographs.
Follow along with me. You don’t need to design the table/figures in the same way I do. In fact, have fun exploring the options here.
ACTION ITEM: When you’ve finished, upload a document with all four of your technical graphics (you can easily copy-and-paste Excel graphics in to a Word file).
