Introduction paragraph:
In your introduction, summarize the speaker’s thesis of the speech and the speaker’s main supporting reasons (2-4 reasons) in general, without quoting or analyzing. This section is a short summary and should be limited to 3-5 sentences. The summary should attempt to signal the kind of rhetorical methods involved in your following analysis.
Your thesis at the end of this paragraph should assess the speech’s strengths and weaknesses as an argument of persuasion. Use a complex thesis, indicating relative strength in one rhetorical method and relative weakness in another rhetorical method, or a relative strength in some topics, and relative weakness in other topics.
Consider writing your Introduction paragraph later, after you have outlined/ written your body paragraphs.
Body Paragraph Organization:
For your analysis, organize each body paragraph by the speech’s main supporting points or by rhetorical method. Remember to use clear topic sentences indicating this organization. Carefully craft your quoted material, using the proper quoting technique. Pay special attention to QT, QS, and QE.
Conclusion paragraph:
In your short conclusion, assess whether the speech overall is using fair or unfair arguments. The speech’s fairness in its techniques of persuasion is based primarily on the quality of its L/R, versus its usage of other techniques (E, C, Fallacies).
Make sure to use clear criteria stated in your first sentence, and discuss them throughout the rest of the paragraph.
