Small POX

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1200696/
1.     According to the TED-Ed video, when was the first recorded treatment of Small pox?
2.     Describe the treatment.
3.     What percentage of people would die from variolation?
4.     Given this information why would people still get the variolation treatment?
5.     (multiple choice) According to a study of COVID 19 vaccine side-effects:
“A major study of vaccine side-effects in the US found no link between two Covid jabs and the number of deaths recorded after vaccination.” (https://www.bbc.com/news/health-60653946).
Which of the following is the most logical conclusion to make from this study?
a)     No one has died from the covid 19 vaccines.
b)    There is no evidence to support the belief that the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines have killed anyone.
c)     It is always wise to ignore science.
d)    There is no way to know anything for sure so it is wise to believe what I prefer.
6.     Given just the evidence from the questions so far in this assignment, have we gotten any better at making vaccinations over the last 1000’s years?
7.     Opinion question (Your opinion needs to be relevant to the question asked but it makes no difference what your opinion is on this topic. If you have an opinion you will get credit for this question. I just want to know what other people think about this topic). Every time I hear the story of how Dr. Edward Jenner made the first small pox vaccination I am struck by his ethical choices. Do you see any ethical problems with the way Dr. Jenner set up his experiment on cow pox/small pox? If so, can you suggest any changes that Dr. Jenner could have made to make is experiment more ethical?
8.     What is the difference and similarities between small pox and cow pox?
9.     Is small pox a problem in modern society? Justify your answer.
10.  Many animals have an immune system like ours. When our immune system is challenged by a disease it makes an “army” of T-Cytotoxic cells, T-Helper cells and B-lymphocytes to fight off the specific infection that we have at that moment. However, there is also a “reserve army” of these same kinds of cells called Memory cells. These memory cells can live for a few months or up to a human lifetime. These memory cells will fight only the infection that you previously had. It may seem like a disadvantage to keep immune cells that can only fight one particular disease. However, another way to look at this is those memory cells are experts at fighting off a pathogen that is in your community, spreading around and that you are likely to encounter again. Using the concept of memory cells can you simply and factually explain how vaccines work?
