In this project, students will analyze and propose strategies to optimize the supply chain management processes for a global retail chain operating in the fashion industry. Students will be required to apply supply chain management concepts and theories learned in their coursework to address real-life challenges faced by the retail chain and develop actionable recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Project Tasks:
Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the retail chain’s current supply chain management practices, including procurement, inventory management, logistics, and distribution. Compare the retail chain’s supply chain performance metrics with industry benchmarks and best practices to identify areas of underperformance or inefficiency. Map the entire supply chain network, including suppliers, manufacturers, distribution centers, and retail outlets, to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and potential areas for optimization. Evaluate the effectiveness of the retail chain’s current inventory management practices, including safety stock levels, reorder points, and inventory turnover rates, and propose improvements to minimize stockouts and excess inventory. Assess transportation, warehousing, and distribution processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction, route optimization, and lead time reduction. Explore the potential benefits of implementing advanced technology solutions such as RFID, IoT, and data analytics to improve supply chain visibility, traceability, and efficiency. Consider sustainability factors such as carbon footprint, ethical sourcing, and waste reduction in supply chain decision-making and propose initiatives to enhance the sustainability of the supply chain.
