In the content for Week 1, What is an Information System, there are several examples of definitions of information systems. The common theme is that organizations are supported by information systems by holding and enabling the use of data. This week’s reading on Analyzing Process Improvements Supported by IT explains how systems enable communication, collaboration, and workflow throughout an organization. In Section II Process Analysis (Stage 2 Assignment), the focus is on process analysis and improvement as well as benefits of improvements on some specific non-technical areas (Stage 2 Assignment is due at the end of Week 4).
For this week’s discussion, select one of the three areas listed below, and discuss how companies can use information systems and the data within them to address that aspect. Conduct some research and provide specific examples including what companies have focused on in these areas and examples of types of information systems used to gather, analyze and distribute data. Simply typing “use of data to support organizational collaboration” (or whatever aspect you select) into your web browser will produce results but make sure to use relevant and credible sources for this discussion. As examples to help you think about the Stage 2 Assignment, discuss these various aspects, and how companies use information systems to improve in these areas. Select your topic and insert it in the subject line of your response. If possible, select an original topic that has not yet been discussed, in order to provide a variety of examples.

Remember, the Group 4 initial post is due by Friday at midnight. The initial post should be roughly two paragraphs long and supported by external research. Click on “Start a New Thread” to begin your post.
Your posts need to thoroughly respond to the questions and incorporate relevant research correctly. Please refer to previous posts from your classmates before choosing your examples.
If possible, select an original topic that has not yet been discussed, in order to provide a variety of examples.
Then, members of Groups 1, 2, and 3 should reply to at least three different posts by other classmates before Tuesday at midnight. Responses to initial posts should be specific and assess whether the post accurately and sufficiently addresses the questions asked in the discussion topic. Incorporating additional research will strengthen your participation. Assess whether the information is correct or not, and/or complete, and provide correct information to enhance the discussion.
Members of Group 4 should read the discussion and reply to a minimum of two responses.
Since this is a discussion, all students should be aware of any questions that may have been asked, and respond in a timely and respectful manner.
