he Community Engagement Project for LDR 525 is a culmination of the content know

he Community Engagement Project for LDR 525 is a culmination of the content knowledge gained as a result of the candidate’s participation in this course.  It demonstrates the candidate’s ability to collect, synthesize and apply knowledge about the school, the district, and the community demographics and to present the data in such a way that it can be incorporated as part of the school and/or district improvement planning process.
The candidate completes a two part assignment that will  1) describe the school’s community and how it relates to the district community; 2) analyze the data collected in the description; 3) provide needs analysis for the  school and community that can be applied to a school improvement action to better meet the needs of each student including EL’s, at risk early childhood students, and students with disabilities; 4) consider what district resources and supports might be used to meets the needs identified in the analysis 5) establish a community engagement project including a process that describes how you would establish, implement, sustain and evaluate the project.
Part II:  COMMUNICATION, ENGAGEMENT, and COLLABORATION
In light of the demographic information you identified above, how does your school connect with students, parents, and the community?  Develop a community engagement plan for your school by critiquing of the needs that you have identified from your analysis of the data. Your critique should include the following sections:
Explain how your school or district is currently responding or not responding to those needs through instruction, allocation of resources, community partnerships, and/or programs.
Identify marginalized community members and students and determine in what ways the school or district is inclusive or exclusive of them. Ensure that one of these ways address the racial equity represented in your community.
Identify emerging trends and issues related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment that may impact the school district and community.  How do you propose to integrate these emerging trends with the needs of your community?
How might students be impacted (or expected impacts) both in intended and unintended ways?
Finally develop an action plan for addressing the needs you have identified.  Include a process as to how you would establish, implement, sustain and evaluate your plan. Some examples of ways your school and district might reach out to the community may include:
Offering materials in languages other than English
Communicating school messages by a variety of means (online, mail, notes home, phone calls)
Open houses
Community events/classes for parents and community members during non-school hours
Reaching out to community members to volunteer at school
Offering special incentives to involve community members that may not (or no longer) have children in school (e.g., senior passes to school events)
Involving parents and community members in decision-making/committee membership
Cultivating partnerships with local community businesses and individuals to support and implement programs and services to increase student achievement.
