Students will complete a cultural genogram and reflection project that demonstrates skills learned throughout the course. Students will submit a visual representation (e.g. digital poster, YouTube video, etc.) that visually demonstrates the cultural genogram. Additionally, students will write a reflection paper (8-10 pages, APA style) summarizing their experiences with the activity, demonstrating application and integration of constructs learned throughout the course, and emphasizing specific topics such as multiculturalism, stress management, and awareness of self in relation to working with clients.
Students should begin with the paper for this assignment. This writing activity should explain your salient identities. What would be important for someone to know about you and your cultural identity? Why? Explain these identities and how they have developed from childhood to current. Explain how these cultural identities have impacted relationships, career choices, etc. What identities are still developing?
Next, think about how this activity has impacted you and then discuss how this could be utilized when working with clients. How will you utilize this information in working with clients who have cultural identities different from your own?
