Step 1: Select one participant (you can select yourself if you would like). Ask your participant if they are willing to participate in an experiment you are conducting for class.
Phase 2: Data Collection
Step 2: Tell your participant you will ask them one question, and you need them to type their response to you (e.g., in a word doc, or via text or email).
Step 3: Ask your participant this one question: What is your story? (remember: you will need their complete answer to be typed)
Note: Do not look at Step 4 until after you have completed Step 3.
Phase 3: Data Analysis
Step 4: Analyze their typed response in two ways.
First, report on and compare the number of first-person pronouns (e.g., I, me, we) and third-person pronouns (e.g., she, him, they) they used. Discuss: What do you think these results mean?
Second, analyze the content of their “narrative identity,” using concepts from the module to explain what aspects of self and identity you notice emerge in their response. Use at least three concepts from the module in your answer.
