Your final project will be a research paper of 8-10 pages. Research based arguments are becoming ubiquitous in our digital world, and it is imperative that we learn how to formulate a reasoned, fact-based argument. Whether we will be using these techniques in our chosen careers, or simply in our daily life, knowing what sources are valuable and being able to protect the intellectual property of others is crucial. Formulating a well-reasoned argument through multiple drafts and using rhetorical strategies will solidify the work we have done this semester.
Content Requirements:
• Topic must have at least 2 arguable sides.
• Use a guiding research question to conduct your research and help formulate a thesis.
• Must have a developed, persuasive, and arguable thesis statement that can be supported with research.
• Research must come from credible, scholarly sources. Do not use user-edited websites such as Wikipedia as source material. If you are unsure if a source is scholarly, ask.
• You must have at least 5 different sources, but no more than 10.
• Arguments should follow a clear and logical progression. You should demonstrate a distinct argumentative structure with appropriate claims, warrants, backing, rebuttals, etc.
• Use proper MLA formatting for citation of direct quotes, paraphrased ideas, and summaries of information that come from your research.
• Use effective word choice, sentence structure, and grammar. It will be considered as part of your grade for this project.
