here are the comments i got on my rough draft.
Erik,
Good work, but you did not have the correct number of sources cited for this assignment. You must include citations in your submission.  The requirement was to have at least 4 sources cited for this draft submission.  Please continue to work towards integrating primary sources into your submission. The requirement is to have at least 3 primary sources cited in your final submission, but that is the minimum! Also, please do not “right justify” your submission.
Please see detailed grading comments in the rubric.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
Overview
The project for this course should be centered on a historical argument that demonstrates an understanding of the consequences of World War I. You will construct a fully researched, thesis-driven narrative paper containing both primary and secondary sources. The project is supported by two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Two and Five. The final project will be submitted in Module Seven.
Your task is to narrow your focus to a manageable question that can be answered in a coherent, thesis-driven fashion. Frequently, the assessment of World War I includes some suggestion that the seeds of World War II can clearly be found in how World War I ended. The Nazi rise to power in Germany was fueled in no small measure by deep-seated resentment at the reparation and war guilt clauses of the Versailles Treaty. Similarly, the geographic separation of Prussia from the rest of Germany stood as a stark reminder of the manner in which Germany was made to pay for the war. The establishment of the League of Nations without American involvement left that body comparatively weaker than it otherwise would have been. Yet, viewing World War I only through the lens of the causes of World War II shrouds its deeper, longer-lasting impacts.
Remember that the topic needs to address the consequences of the war broadly speaking, so topics need to move beyond simply describing events. You should NOT produce biographies or simple reconstructions of particular military campaigns.
You will strategically organize your paper to put together a highly effective response to the issue presented by your topic. Your paper will contain:
A Compelling Introduction: Identify your topic clearly, outlining the structure of the argument, defining key terms and clearly stating the thesis.
An Organized Body: Follow through your thesis in the body of your paper. Ensure you use effective transitions for every component of your argument. The body of your paper should flow logically, arguing the thesis from your introduction with highly effective examples and facts that support each element and claim in your thesis. The body will also include effective source evidence from your research in the form of highly relevant quotations and concise paraphrasing.
A Powerful Conclusion: This is where you pull it all together. Your conclusion will not only effectively restate your thesis, but it will pull all your claims together. Your conclusion should clearly relate how the issue represented by the thesis is important, identify what bigger question it raises, and/or address possibilities and implications for additional research.
Milestone Two: Rough Draft
In Module Five, you will submit a copy of a complete final project rough draft. This information will assist your instructor in providing you appropriate feedback on the direction you are taking. Each critical element should be represented in this version of your final project, but it does not need to be fully fleshed out. It is understood that this paper is just taking shape. Keep in mind that this rough draft will be reviewed by your classmates in the next module. To prepare for peer review, also post your rough draft to the Module Six Peer Workshop topic.
Submit a copy of your Final Project Rough Draft. Each critical element should be represented in the rough draft, but it does not need to be fully fleshed out. It is understood that this paper is still taking shape. Your instructor will provide you with feedback and you should incorporate this feedback into your final submission. Keep in mind that this rough draft will be reviewed by your classmates in the next module.
here was my final project proposal:
For my final project Id like to look into the impact of World War I, on Russias Revolution focusing on how it led to the downfall of the Romanov dynasty and the birth of the Soviet Union. Through an examination of historical sources, such as documents and accounts we aim to uncover the factors that fueled this significant historical event.
The Revolution in Russia was not a reaction to war hardships; it stemmed from rooted societal issues. The war worsened tensions by straining the economy and causing resource shortages fueling discontent among Russians. Soldiers struggles at the lines along with food scarcity and inflation at home set the stage for revolutionary ideas to flourish.
Moreover socialist and communist ideologies gained popularity during this time as visions for a society emerged. The Bolshevik Party, under Vladimir Lenins leadership seized power, amid discontent leading to the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.
The end of the Romanov dynasty not signified a moment, in history but also paved the way for the emergence of the Soviet Union and the widespread influence of communism on a global scale.
Through an examination of sources like political declarations, speeches and personal testimonies alongside secondary sources offering historical context and scholarly viewpoints my goal is to illuminate the intricate relationship between World War I and the Russian Revolution. This study aims to deepen our comprehension of how wars can shape nations paths and profoundly impact societies.
To sum up my investigation will delve into how the Russian Revolution emerged as an aftermath of World War I. By exploring factors such as sociopolitical dynamics, revolutionary beliefs and influential figures roles I aim to reveal the complex ties between war and revolution in Russia. This exploration will enhance our understanding of how global conflicts leave lasting effects, on societies.
here was my professor response to my proposal:
Good topic selection as it is well within the scope of the course.  It is very broad right now, but I see how it fits in your interests. Please continue to refine the topic, to include incorporating the supporting points into your thesis. Again, your thesis statement is the answer to the argument you are making.  Start with a good historical question that you can answer authoritatively.  Your “proposed” thesis will answer that question.  Narrowing your focus will help both your research plan and will add to the clarity of your argument immensely. Moving forward, develop at least 3-4 supporting points and use distinct paragraphs to organize those points into an argument that answers your question.  I would also recommend you put together a research outline. The final requirement is to have at least 6 sources (3 secondary/3 primary) for your project, so gathering those tools is a necessity right now.  I would encourage you to peruse the available primary accounts that pertain to your topic.  Those can be found in the Module 2 and 3 resource pages.  They include valuable links that will take you to primary source databases on WW1.  Again, good job, but now is the time to begin assembling your “war chest” of research “ammunition.”  Topic refinement will help you greatly.  The more focused your thesis and supporting points will facilitate you finding the right primary and secondary sources.
