The YA Lit blog or multi-modal portfolio is meant to help you engage in active reading and thinking about our textbook and the YA novels we will be reading. We will engage in a variety of instructional activities related to the texts; these will focus on pre-reading, during reading, and post reading. The assignments embedded in this semester-long blog project will include personal writing prompts, graphic organizers, creative responses, notes, etc. You will “turn in” this compilation as part of your final; you are expected to submit a holistic, organized array of your work over the semester.
For this project, you will complete a total of 8 artifacts:
• 3 reader responses (to course textbook or PDFs)
• 3 book reviews (based on our common YA Lit novels (Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline, House on Mango Street by Sandra and All American Boys by Jason and Brendan)
• 1 reading list focused on teaching YA lit to ESOL students (ESOL Standard 4)
• 1 lesson plan/classroom application post (based on our common YA Lit novels OR one of your additional choice texts)
This assignment is also designed for you to focus on researching current educational issues and allow you to consider how the current field of YA Lit is situated to support ESOL/English Language Learners
