The main charachter who is also the narrator “Haoran” lives in a small poor village in the north of china (please do the proper research to find one that would have had famine during the great chinese famine). I’ve attached what I have written so far to help streamline the story as well as ideas for the annotated bibliography. I want the story to confront the problems of Mao’s communism through the lens of Haoran (a nationalistic and patriotic young man) However Haoran (the narrotor) isnt educated since he grew up very poor. The story is a testament of some of the things he witnessed or experienced as his village was experiencing famine. The story is descriptive and is meant to portray the extreme struggle of famine. Instead of having a traditional plot I want it to paint the daily struggles of famine in Mao’s china through the lens of a once ambitious man Haoran who is slowly losing hope until his eventual death.
