The creative submission or piece of art you create for your final project will be accompanied by a 500-750 word essay/artist’s statement, that references at least three required course materials and at least three additional peer-reviewed sources from the student’s own literature review. In-text citations should be formatted according to the ASA style guide and a bibliography (not included in word count) should be included with the essay.
You will write an academic essay that explores the research, history, and meaning of the term/concept that you choose, or you can write more of a personal essay about your experience/relationship with the concept/theme. However, I ask that you pair those anecdotes with analysis. As long as you are focusing on the concept and utilizing an academic or analytical critique, along with your sources in your writing, I am here for whatever you want to serve up.
There should be two components to the paper you submit:
1) Analytical essay which explores the topic/concept you have chosen and did the creative submission for which includes engagement and in-text citation of your references
2) Short (around 100-200) art statement at beginning of the paper or at the bottom of the paper. In the art statement, you will introduce your creative submission and briefly tell us the meaning and emotions along with it. Writing an artist’s statement is a good way to clarify your own ideas about your work and tell the viewer about your process.
You will submit your essay here. Give your essay a title, and please provide a word count. At the end, list your citations in a format of your choice.
