The course description: In this course, we will examine a variety of films from post-war Japan to foster our understanding and discussion of aspects of Japanese culture, including a variety of views on life, family, gender, sexuality, technology, nature, religion, capitalism, and modernity.
Project: For this class, you will complete a project on a topic of your choice related to the course theme of Japanese culture and film (Pick a japanese movie that is not in the syllabus attached). The project can be an argumentative research paper of 2000– 2500 words (roughly 8–10 pages). It must engage with relevant scholarship – the exact number of sources depends on the project, but usually about 4–5 sources minimum.
