Starting with your interdisciplinary research question, you will build a researc

Starting with your interdisciplinary research question, you will build a research proposal that will take the form of a 5-7 page double spaced paper. This proposal will include an introduction, background (including a multi-disciplinary literature review), integrative theory and hypotheses, suggested design for testing the hypotheses and suggested analysis that best fits the data (this can be qualitative or quantitative). Inductive research designs are acceptable as well but will unfold in a different order, where the data and analysis comes before the theory is constructed. This proposal needs to be precise, logically coherent, concise, organized, interdisciplinary, and language should be strictly objective. It should read like the first half of an interdisciplinary research article. Visual aids, such as tables, charts or graphs are encouraged. Students may work with a partner or individually, however decisions for collaboration should be submitted to the professor before the end of the 12th week of class. Some tips about each segment of the paper can be found below. Use subtitles to organize your paper! Tips for finding sources can be found here. The introduction should be attention grabbing and help explain the importance of your research question using outside sources. Tell us what you’re going to tell us. And remember that this is not a mystery novel. Be straight forward and objective. The background should include what other people have found related to your research area. This will be your literature review and also include background information you would like to share about your research area. Your theory is a logically consistent explanation that should answer your question and it should cite some relevant sources. While your theory may be 2-4 paragraphs, your hypothesis should be a one sentence expectation that you have based on your theory (i.e., countries that have more stringent COVID policies have lower rates of COVID, etc.). You may have multiple hypotheses. Your research design section should lay out how you are going to test your theory (what data are you going to use and how will you test that data). If your study is inductive, then this will come before the theory.
