Each case brief must be at least two full double-spaced typed pages in length (one-inch margins 12-point
font Microsoft word format). There is no maximum length. Do the assignment in paragraph form. A case
brief consists of several different sections:
I. Facts – what are the relevant facts in the case?
II. Issue – what is the issue the court is deciding?
III. Holding – what rule did the court decide? What is the holding in this case?
IV. Decision – what made the court decide the way it did? What rules, laws, facts, etc. did the court use in
making its decision? In other words, why did the court rule the way it did?
V. Do you personally agree with the decision and why (I want a full paragraph on this)?
You must do this assignment completely on your own. An occasional quote is fine, but I want this
assignment to basically be done in your own words. If you use any research other than the cases themselves
you must appropriately cite them.
