(1st – 6th grade). Your task is to read and summarize two articles about
academic needs of elementary students with disabilities, one article relating to
assistive technology that supports students with high-incidence disabilities; and
one additional article about teaching in the inclusive classroom with elementary
students with disabilities. In your written summaries, identify current research-
validated teaching methods and strategies, and specifying how current research
can assist your team in the process of developing individualized instruction for
elementary students.
 Directions: Read a total of four peer-reviewed, research-based journal articles
regarding elementary students with disabilities (one about academic needs in
reading, one about academic needs in math, one about assistive technology to
support students with high-incidence disability, and one about teaching in the
inclusion classroom to elementary students).
 Limit each of your four summaries to two pages of text each, not counting the
cover page and reference page. An overview of components to include in your
summaries is listed below (see rubric for specific details).
 Your article summaries (four total articles) will focus on the academic needs of
elementary students with disabilities, including strategies for teaching reading
and mathematics and include these components: a) purpose of the articles, b)summaries of the articles, c) research-to-practice applicability, and d) articlesummaries written in APA publication style format (e.g., cover page, headings,in-text citations, reference page).
