After you read it, determine what the main idea of the text is. We define the main idea as what the author wants the reader to take away from the story. Think about what you would want your student (a seven year old) to say if you were to ask them what the main idea is.
Explain how you would lead a 90-second lesson launch demonstrating how you would introduce the text assigned to a small group of students (seven year olds) in a guided reading lesson. For context, guided reading is a time when students read in small groups. Teachers begin by launching the text, then giving students time to read the text independently, and finally bringing the group back together to discuss the text. For this assignment you will only be responsible for the launch component where you will set students up for reading.
You should accomplish the following three things:
1 Get your students excited/engaged in the text they are about to read.
2 Set clear expectations for your students while they are reading.
3 Provide one thinking job for your students to think about while reading. This question should be something that will help your students get to the main idea while they read.
