Preservation Research Essay (The Alamo) : A 10-page research paper using the sources and topic I have provided in my bibliography. The whole purpose of the research paper is to research all of the different aspects how the Alamon in San Antonio Texas but most importantly the history and modern ways that the preserve the alamo and keep it still standing good today.
Guide to Research Papers (Rubric)
Research papers must conform with the Chicago Style (or Turabian).
Research papers must be written using active voice.
Papers must be double-spaced and ten to twelve pages (text only) in length. The further a paper deviates from this basic standard, the more likely it is that the overall grade will be affected.
Research papers are to have a title page.
Unless otherwise required, the font is to be Times New Roman 12 pt., with one-inch margins.
All pages (except the Title Page) will have page numbers at the bottom, centered.
Citations will be in the form of End Notes.
A reference page (Works Cited) with full bibliographic citations is required.
Evidence of a review by the LCU Writing Center is required with submittal of the first draft.
The grade for the paper will be determined by the professor, and will include consideration of multiple factors, including but not limited to the quality of writing, attention to detail, the evident effort put forth, thoroughness of research, the thoughtfulness of addressing the topic, etc. The Research Paper is worth 200 points. In general, an A paper (450-500 points) is excellent or exemplary. B (180-200) is above average but not excellent. C (140-179 points) is average, only meeting the minimum standards for being acceptable and/or does not excel in any of the above qualities. A D (120-139 points) paper is below average and/or contains serious flaws. An F (less than 120 points) will be assigned to a paper that is unacceptable.
Academic sources must be used, though depending on the subject it may be appropriate to incorporate reference, journalistic, or other sources. Content must be cited. Because of some possible topics, the Research Paper may include illustrations (photographs, drawings, and/or other visual examples). Although such may be included in the Research Paper, the paper’s written narrative must be ten to twelves pages in length. Papers must not include large portions of text that is a close paraphrase of one or a small number of sources. In short, papers must conform to current standards of academic writing (active voice) and the requirements required style.
A general guide (rubric) to the writing/narrative content of papers follows. As such, it is only part of what will be considered in assigning the overall grade but may serve as a useful example/guide. It is adapted from a guide written by accomplished English professors to provide a standard for college-level writing.
A (180-200 points)—Excellent, Outstanding, Fluent, Effective
The paper is a superior and carefully organized response to the selected topic, each paragraph having a controlling idea and excellent supporting detail, with a fluent style and thought-provoking content. It contains few (if any) mechanical errors, uses effective introductions, transitions, and conclusions, and demonstrates complete mastery of standard English. It uses appropriate sources to inform its presentation, offering solid research.
B (160-179)—Good, Above Average, Clear, Well-Organized
The paper is a good response to the selected topic, each paragraph having a controlling idea that is adequately supported by detail. It perhaps contains mechanical/organizational errors, but not so many that the reader is distracted or confused. Contains complete, clear sentences with some variety. Demonstrates at least some skill in the use of effective introductions, paragraphs, and conclusions. It demonstrates reasonable mastery of standard English. It uses sources accurately and ethically, with solid research.
