Your Signature Assignment provides an opportunity to interview an individual and reflect on the social and cultural factors that shape their life experiences thus far. Please use the interview questions you’ve developed in week 5. The sections of this paper should include:
This is essentially a conceptualization of a person that will foster your understanding of how intersecting identities and the fundamental principles of social psychology shape individuals’ lives and how they interact with the world around them. The paper is comprised of 2 parts.
Part 1: Intake Interview
You will describe your participant’s socio-demographic factors such as race, ethnicity, immigration status/history, age, gender orientation, sexual orientation, religion, educational status, social class, etc. You will also describe the norms, behaviors, and values this person has developed based on each of these socio-demographic factors. You may include their experience of being a member of each of these cultural groups. Lastly, you should consider including any major life events that have impacted them, based on all or any one of their socio-cultural identities.
Part 2: Application of Social Psychology
You will discuss your participant’s socio-demographic factors in terms of how they are perceived by the general public. This may include negative and positive stereotypes about group membership and how the group is portrayed in the media and arts. This should also include your honest reactions/reflections to each of this person’s socio-cultural identities. You should consider reflecting on any major events, if any, that has impacted your view of this individual’s identity(ies). You will use this section to synthesize your knowledge of Social Psychology and the intersectionality with counseling.
