Professional competence
During
my clinical this semester I was able to obtain vitals, pass oral medications
with the exception of narctoics, give subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.  However the focus was primarily on patient assessment
The facility where I participated
in clinical this semester was a long term care / rehab facility.  That does not accept patients with IV’s or
foleys.
Improvement can be made in continuing to improve assessment skills.
Challenging Situations
The
patients in the area of the facility had what was described as “behaviors” by
the facility staff.  Theses behaviors ranged
from being verbally aggressive to physically violent.   The facility also had a locked unit for
patients with advanced Alzheimer’s and dementia.  Learning how to alter communication in order
to effectively communicate with these patients was the most challenging part of
the clinical experience for me.
Personal and Professional Growth
Learning
how to effectively communicate with a wide variety of patients well continue to
allow me to grow as a professional
