For this paper you are to find one or two articles of a recent astronomical
discovery/development that relates to the course material and write about the
articles you have chosen. The article you choose must have been dated since
January 2021 onward and about a scientific discovery in astronomy.
You do not need to use a journal article for this, but it must be a recent
discovery to count for an article. Going to NASA.com and finding a website
that gives the basic description for the different parts of the Electromagnetic
spectrum for example would not count as a recent discovery. It must include new
information for it be a discovery. An example of this is talking about maybe
how a telescope found information about a planet in a different wavelength.
Scientific discoveries in other fields while always important are not on topic
for this paper. So you cannot use articles talking about medical, biological, or
other discovery unless it ties to astronomy and topics covered in this class. Blogs
or other opinion articles will not count. Those do not give actual facts, they
generally give someone’s view point about the topic itself. To help make sure
that your article fits the description you need to submit that on Blackboard by
April 12 at 11:59pm. This will be part of your grade for the paper.
In your paper you should summarize what the discovery is and how it relates
to the class material. Because this could be related to material towards the end
of the semester, it is not due until the very last day of the semester itself. You
should also put your thoughts about the discovery development or why you
chose the article you did. For example, if a person were to use the first landing
on the Moon (which is not current events so you cannot use this example) one
could talk about how understanding the Moon may give a better understanding
to the formation history of the Solar System and our Earth Moon system.
This should generally be 1-2 pages in length with at least one page minimum
in length. A half page summary of the article does not count for full credit.
You need to be using a 12pt font and double spaced. Turn in your paper in
either a Microsoft Word document or .pdf file. Any other file types will not be
accepted for this. This may not be an English class, but please check spelling
and proofread your paper before turning this in. I will be using Turnitin so
make certain you are submitting your own original work. I do not care what
method you use to cite your sources (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc) as long as you
do and are consistent
