Final Research Project Assignment Sheet-
Research is the act of systematically

Final Research Project Assignment Sheet-
Research is the act of systematically investigating sources to confirm or make new conclusions
about a topic.
Combining the rhetorical tools of critical reading, annotation, analysis, comparison, and
argumentation, your task is to choose an issue, find a minimum of 3 sources (2 peer-reviewed)
related to the issue, and explain your position on the issue with research.
The ability to research is a necessary skill for formal education, careers, and daily life. The
rhetorical practices of this course up to this point (Narrative Essay, Comparison Essay) have
been geared towards helping you sharpen your critical thinking/reading skills to consider a broad
range of information to inform your research. You will first evaluate your sources with
the Annotated Bibliography, organize your essay with an Outline, and then make
claims/conclusions about your topic with the Research Essay.
This assignment consists of the following three components-
1. Outline- Your task in the outline is to create a template for your essay using the
Academic Essay Structure we discussed in class consisting of an Introduction with a
thesis statement, Body Paragraph sections organized by the thesis statement and sub-
topics with topic sentences and references to your sources, and a Conclusion that restates
the thesis and summarizes main points. Outlines are worth 10 points.
2. Annotated Sources and Annotated Bibliography containing at least 3 sources (2
peer-reviewed): The Annotated Bibliography is your opportunity to briefly summarize
the relevant information of each source and how they will be incorporated into your
research. This is an intensive project that requires close-reading, annotation, paraphrase,
MLA-style citation, and critical thinking. Annotations for your sources are worth 10
points; the Annotated Bibliography is worth 30 points
3. 2000-2500-word Final Expository Research Essay: The Final Research Essay is a 6 ½-
8-page paper that explores your chosen issue utilizing a minimum of 3 sources (2 peer-
reviewed). You will be comparing, analyzing, and arguing information to explain the
conclusions of your research. 200 points.
**I will also need a copy of the rough draft on a separate paper as its own to turn in as well.
